Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to be an MSYP because I believe no young person should go unheard. Growing up as a second-generation immigrant taught me how important it is to acknowledge the diverse voices we all hold as part of the decision-making process. Young people often feel voiceless, overlooked, and unwanted when talking about the issues that matter most to them and are most impactful to their lives. For me, becoming an MSYP does not only mean representation; but about offering a place for young people to feel safe, included, and empowered to speak their truth. People of all backgrounds, identities, lifestyles, and circumstances should feel their perspective is recognised and worth sharing. I want to encourage young people to believe in the potential of their voice and show them that they can create real change. Let me show you that all voices will be without a doubt impossible to ignore!

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I intend to use multiple methods that are easily accessible to ensure young people in East Lothian feel represented, and have their voices heard. To achieve this, I have already begun by designing and distributing a Google Form across all year groups in Knox Academy. This enabled me to identify the three issues I’m focusing on during my campaign. This means that my priorities came directly from young people's opinions on the key issues currently facing Scotland. If elected, I will continue to conduct surveys, drop-in sessions, and utilize social media to engage with as many young people as possible. Additionally, I will attend school councils, youth clubs and community events, to engage with those who may not have access to the internet. I strive to be approachable, transparent, and motivated, so that every young person feels their opinions matter and are considered throughout my work as an MSYP.

Why should someone vote for you?

You should vote for me because I care deeply about ensuring every young person is seen and valued. As Head Pupil at Knox Academy, I have been able to listen to different perspectives, represent my peers, and work toward progress and positive change. This role has provided me with a genuine appreciation for the importance of being approachable, fair, and willing to speak on behalf of others. Beyond school, I volunteer within my community, which has given me a real understanding of the difficult circumstances many young people deal with in completely diverse situations. What I am most passionate about is making sure young people’s voices are heard, which is why I sent the Form across my school, asking what issues mattered most to young people. I wanted to make sure the three priorities I have are from the feedback of young people, not specifically me. If you vote for me, I will keep listening to your suggestions. I want to always be open, approachable, and honest so that your views are taken to a national level. A vote for me is a vote for your voice, and I will work hard to ensure your voice is consistently heard.
