Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to be a MSYP so I can help raise awareness for care experienced young people. And create safe space for them to go if they want to ask questions or let people know how they are feeling. And to let teachers and other adults become more aware of care experienced young people and any extra support they should be receiving. I want to help families in poverty and work with charities that offer support for clothes and food. And try and get more schools to have support hubs for young people who are struggling with buying school uniform or just daily living supplies. I want to create youth rooms for young people and adults struggling with their mental health as young people are scared to open up about their feelings. I want to create anonymous drop in sessions and a drop in box in schools for young people to put notes in about any worries or struggles the are facing in and around school or at home.

What are the issues that matter most to you?

Youth Care Experience

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I will attend schools and youth groups for care experienced young people. And offer support for any struggles they are facing and create information packs that include ways care experience could impact young people and how to approach a young person who is care experienced without making them feel uncomfortable.

I will do assemblies with PowerPoints on how to save money responsibly and to help learn about the cost of the school day. I will email headteachers from other schools to offer support in organising programmes that offer food and clothing support.

I will have a mental health day twice a month in schools where young people can get involved in practical activities and take part in surveys to respond in how well the sessions work. Letting young people know that its okay and normal to open up about how there feeling and to be able to have mental health supports that can help calm young people down when faced with stress.
