East Kilbride
Why do you want to be an MSYP?
I want to be an MSYP because it will enable me to support and create the changes that young people like me truly need, and ensure those valuable decisions about us are made by us. I also want to be an MSYP because it is an opportunity to share the knowledge and my interest for human rights and sustainability, one reason being that I have witnessed firsthand brilliant ideas, solutions and thoughts that have been turned down simply because they were too young or ‘don’t understand yet’ and couldn’t make decisions about their own lives and future. But I want those people to know that their thoughts and ideas are valid and valued, and with me as an MSYP I will ensure that what matters the most to us all is what we act on, by empowering each and every individual to speak up for themselves and represent their opinions at the SYP.
How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?
I have already had group and 1/1 conversations with young people about their views on local issues and what matters most to them, such as having free recreational activities, and awarness about discrimination and how to stop it. As your MSYP I will continue to understand what the young people of East Killbride want as well as opinions and any concerns or ideas they would me to bring up to the SYP. I will also create effective surveys. This will help me amplimfy young voices and what they actually want to see happen in our East Kilbride.
Why should someone vote for you?
As your MSYP,I want to actively ignite a movement for change, not just represent. Voting for me is voting for a commitment to our human rights, our environment and our education, as well as ensuring that every young person has access to equal opportunities.
I believe we deserve to have a genuine say in the decisions that affect our lives and future. I want to become an MSYP to turn our concerns, ideas and ambitions into meaningful action, rather than allowing our voices to be dismissed simply because we are young.
With many years of experience in sustainability initiatives and education, I have seen how much young people can contribute when they are given the opportunity.
If elected, I will listen to different perspectives, represent our diverse experiences and make sure that the issues that matter to us are brought forward at the Scottish Youth Parliament. I want to empower young people to speak up for themselves and remind them that their opinions are valid, valuable and worthy of being heard.
I am not standing to speak over young people, but to stand alongside them. Because decisions about our lives should be made us, not without.
