Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to be an MSYP because I want people to feel heard and know their voice matters. I’m dyslexic and autistic, which helps me see things differently, notice details, and understand how important it is to create spaces where people feel comfortable and valued. I’ll bring commitment, determination, and passion to the role, along with strong communication skills and the confidence to stand up for issues that matter. I want to use my strengths to improve mental health support, tackle gender inequality, and ensure young people’s and minority voices are heard and genuinely shape the decisions that affect us.

What are the issues that matter most to you?

Gender inequality

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I will consult with Girlguiding Scotland members by visiting local units and speaking with girls directly, so I can hear their ideas and experiences in person. I want to make it easy for everyone to share their thoughts, so I’ll also use Google Forms that members can fill in whenever it suits them. I’ll create clear posters and short videos to explain what I’m working on and how members can get involved, especially for people who prefer visual information. My aim is to make sure every member has different ways to share their voice, whether that’s face‑to‑face or online, so no one feels left out. I want girls to feel confident that their opinions matter and will be represented.

Why should someone vote for you?

I want to make sure every young person feels heard, and their ideas are shared by speaking up on the issues that matter to them. My goal would be that everyone has a say in what matters to them, whether it’s an idea or something you want to change. I know how important it is to feel included, especially when you’re unsure if your voice will be taken seriously, so I want to represent people in a way that feels open, friendly, and supportive. I’ll make time to listen properly, understand what matters to you, and make sure your views are shared. I want to help create real change by focusing on the issues that affect young people most, and by making sure no one feels left out or ignored. I would work hard to make sure your voice is valued and that the decisions being made reflect what young people actually need.
