Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I would love to become an MSYP as I have a growing interest and awareness in democracy and politics through my school subjects like Modern Studies, Criminology and Psychology. I feel my confidence has been growing through different opportunities to engage with others, such as group work tasks in school and extracurricular activities. I believe that I have grown to become a reliable and valuable person and that people listen and take my views into consideration. I would feel privileged to represent Girl Guiding which is an important organisation that I have grown up with. I want to help other young girls have the same quality experiences as I have been lucky enough to enjoy.

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

Through many opportunities in and outside of school I have developed my social skills and through sport and Girl Guiding I have met many new people encouraging me to be an effective communicator. In my role as a MSYP I would ensure everyone's voices are heard by listening effectively and making sure peoples views and opinions are taken seriously within the parliament. I would ensure people could trust me with their concerns and rely on me to convey them clearly. I am aware that not everyone will always agree with my opinions so I will strive to put mine aside and take a representative view through to the parliament.

Why should someone vote for you?

I believe people should vote for me to represent them in the SYP because I would ensure that Girl Guiding is an inclusive space where girls would be able to voice their opinions and feel confident about themselves. I would love to make sport and education a more safe and supported environment that young girls would enjoy and engage in and I would ensure my role and responsibility was taken seriously. I have shown that I am a committed and hardworking person through my long term dedication to Guiding and I always strive to be as ambitious as I can be through my school life and exams. This year I have joined my school's pupil council allowing me to represent the views of my peers. I believe this would help me to be an effective MSYP as I would be able to transfer these skills into the Youth Parliament.
