Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to represent the young people of Dundee East as their MSYP as I believe young people deserve to be listened to, taken seriously and involved in decisions that affect their lives. Through my involvement in Dundee Youth Council and the SYP Screensavers group, I have seen how valuable it is when young people have a platform to share their experiences and ideas. I want to use my voice to represent the views of young people in my area, while making sure I listen to a wide range of perspectives. I am particularly passionate about health and wellbeing, employment and education, as I believe these have a huge impact on young people’s lives and opportunities. I would be a passionate, approachable and hardworking MSYP who young people can feel comfortable coming to with their concerns. I want to make sure young people know that their opinions matter and help turn the issues they raise into meaningful change.

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I will make sure I regularly listen to young people in my area through a range of accessible and inclusive methods. I will use surveys, social media and in-person conversations to give young people different ways to share their views, including those who may not feel comfortable speaking in a group.

I will work with schools, colleges, youth groups, organisations and local decision-makers to create more opportunities for young people to have their voices heard. I want to reach as many different young people as possible, including those who may not usually get involved in youth participation.

I will regularly ask young people what issues matter most to them and use their responses to shape my campaigning. I will also consult back to young people on what action has been taken, so young people can see that their voices are being heard and represented.

Why should someone vote for you?

You should vote for me, Erin Nicholson, because I will be a passionate, approachable and hardworking voice for young people. I want to be someone you can come to with your concerns, ideas and experiences, knowing that I will listen and take them seriously.

Young people deserve an MSYP who represents their views and makes sure they are heard. My priorities will focus on health and wellbeing, employment and education, because these are areas that have a real impact on young people’s lives and futures.

Hearing directly from young people will be a key part of my role. I will create opportunities for people to share their views through surveys, social media, schools, colleges, youth groups and local communities, making sure different experiences and perspectives are included.

I will also be open about the work I am doing and keep young people informed about the issues I am raising and the progress being made.

Most importantly, I will be an MSYP who is approachable, determined and always willing to stand up for the young people of Dundee City East. I would be proud to have your vote and even prouder to represent you.
