Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to make an impact for young people, I am passionate about wanting the government to prioritise young people and their needs, and improving different systems in society. This would benefit not only the current generation, but future generations, as they would get more opportunities for work experience and youth employability. I am also passionate about improvements to mental health awareness not only locally in Stirling, but hopefully nationwide. We need to improve attitudes and respect to ourselves and others, especially to those with different physical & mental disabilities, nationalities, beliefs, and identities.  We need to recognise personal biases, understanding different backgrounds, and avoiding stereotypes while showing how to give mutual respect.  Even with my 3 main issues, I also like to make some effort to improve on more things outside of my priorities too, as I am willing to push for small changes that have a big positive impact.

What are the issues that matter most to you?

Online Safety

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

In order to have young people’s voices heard, I would set up a google form that is shared with schools, colleges and universities so young people can suggest improvements and/or changes needed in Stirling.

This could be used for future MSYPs for Stirling once my term is finished.

I would also be willing to go to different schools and communities, to have meetup events for listening to concerns and questions face to face, being able to meet with young people where they are, so their issues and improvements are heard by me and be taken into consideration.

I would also use social media in order to ensure that all young people are able to be informed of SYP work and my contributions across Stirling.

Why should someone vote for you?

As your MSYP and simply for who I am, I’m an open person around other people and I’m willing to hear out anyone’s different discussions, and opinions to me.

I was a speaker at the first Speak Up Stirling, an event where young people took to the stage to talk about important topics and concerns they wanted to raise with other young people and also local decision makers.

This experience has demonstrated my public speaking skills, making me an effective candidate for the SYP elections.

Being your MSYP for young people in Stirling is a responsible role, and one I would take seriously.

I would take it upon myself to make as much effort to really make a difference for the better, for not only the current generation of young people but for future generations, for a better future for young people as a whole.
