Why do you want to be an MSYP?
I would like to be an MSYP as I am passionate about young people having a platform to not only be heard but to be listened to. I am confident, committed and truly certain that I can be an advocate for young people to come to and have their voice heard. I will help to resolve any issues young people face and can assure that I will reach decision makers to involve young people on decisions that involve their future.
What are the issues that matter most to you?
Digital access and safety- I think this is becoming a large issue across Scotland on how young people are becoming less aware of the advantages and disadvantages of AI and technology. I want to ensure young people are able to have safe online lives and have a healthy balance of screen time. I also want to ensure that no young person experiences digital exclusion or digital poverty as I know devices play a huge role in young people’s lives. I want to educate and encourage young people to have safe, healthy digital lives.
How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?
I will consult with young people through school and youth group visits, social media, and surveys. Young people's issues are my priority, and I will ensure they are well represented and listened to by taking their views to decision-makers and then reporting back to young people so they are kept informed and involved in issues and decisions that concern them. I will also communicate with underrepresented groups and young people from a range of backgrounds to ensure their voices are heard in an accessible and approachable way.
Why should someone vote for you?
I think you should vote for me as in my current term as an MSYP I have represented young people of East Lothian at SYP meetings and events. I have regularly consulted with young people on their views and helped support and involve them in decisions made in the community. I am a natural leader and communicator which means I have no issue meeting new people and taking a stance on what will benefit young people. I am friendly and approachable which I feel is key in handling young people’s views and issues that matter most to them. If you vote for me you will see a change for the better in your community.
