Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to become a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament because I believe young people should have a real say in the decisions that affect our lives. If elected, I want to establish 'Falkirk Youth Base', a welcoming space where young people can learn practical life skills, access opportunities, hear from inspiring speakers and feel part of their community. I also want to campaign for better access to early mental health support and make life more affordable for young people, including tackling the high costs associated with learning to drive and car insurance. I want to listen. I want young people across Falkirk West to know that their experiences, concerns and ideas matter, and I will work to make sure their voices are heard. Most importantly, I don’t just want to speak for young people in Falkirk West, I want to give them a platform to speak for themselves.

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I will make sure young people in Falkirk West have different ways to share their views with me, rather than expecting them to come to me. I want to regularly visit schools, youth groups and community organisations to speak directly with young people and hear about the issues affecting them.

I will also use social media, surveys and regular Q&A sessions to make it easy for young people to share their ideas and concerns. I want to create opportunities where people feel comfortable being honest, including those who may not normally get involved in politics.

My proposed Falkirk Youth Base would also provide a physical space where young people could meet, discuss local issues and have their voices heard.

Most importantly, I will keep young people updated on what I am doing as their representative, what I have raised on their behalf, and what progress has been made.

Why should someone vote for you?

I believe people should vote for me because I bring a combination of real-world experience, fresh ideas and a genuine commitment to listening to young people.

As a young person, I understand many of the challenges young people face because I am experiencing them too. From the cost of learning to drive and car insurance to mental health, employment and preparing for adult life, these are not distant issues to me.

Despite my age, I have already gained experience in positions of responsibility. Throughout these positions, I have learned how to communicate with people from different backgrounds, take responsibility, solve problems and turn ideas into action.

But being an MSYP should not be about having the loudest voice. I want to listen to young people across Falkirk West and give them a platform to speak for themselves.

If elected, I will be approachable, active and determined. I won’t promise that I can fix everything, but I will promise to listen, show up, work hard and make sure young people are heard.
