Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

In a changing world, the voices of young people need to be heard. The issues of equality, education and wellbeing have never been more important. I would like to become an MSYP because I believe young people should have a real say in the decisions that shape our lives and our future. I want to turn my passion for making a difference into action. I want to challenge inequalities, raise awareness of issues affecting young people, and help create a future where every young person feels valued, supported, and empowered. To me, being an MSYP is more than having a title. It is an opportunity to make a difference on the issues that matter to young people and help ensure our experiences, ideas and ambitions are taken seriously. Young people are not simply the future; we are an important part of society today.

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I want my role as an MSYP to be a two-way conversation, not just a one-way platform. I would create regular opportunities for young people to share their views through short surveys, anonymous feedback and in-person conversations in schools and youth groups. I would make a particular effort to hear from young people who are less likely to engage with politics or have their voices heard. Most importantly, I would close the feedback loop through regular ‘You said, I did’ updates, showing what I have raised, what action has been taken and where further work is needed. That way, young people would know that I am not just listening to them, but speaking for them and making sure their views shape the work I do.

Why should someone vote for you?

You should vote for me because I am passionate about making sure young people are listened to, represented and given the opportunity to make a difference. I have already taken an active role in my school community through Pupil Parliament and the Pupil Improvement Team, giving me experience in sharing ideas, working with others and helping to create a positive change.
Through my MVP training, Leadership Award and involvement in the charity committee, I have developed the confidence, teamwork and determination that I would bring to the role. My background in drama has also helped me become a confident communicator who is comfortable speaking up and connecting with others.
However, I know being an MSYP is not about having the longest list of achievements. It is about what you do with the opportunity.
I am not standing because I have all the answers; I am standing because I am ready to listen, taking action and make a difference.
