Candidate Profile

Why do you want to be an MSYP?

I want to be an MSYP because I believe young people should have a real say in the decisions that affect their lives and their communities. I want to listen to young people across Clackmannanshire and make sure their views are heard by the people who make decisions. I am interested in improving opportunities for young people, particularly in sport, education and activities in our local communities. Being involved in sport has shown me how important having opportunities, facilities and people to support you can be. I would take the role seriously and make sure I don't just speak for myself. I would listen to different opinions, find out what young people actually want and work with others to try to make positive changes. I want to be an MSYP because I want to make a difference locally and give young people a stronger voice.

What are the issues that matter most to you?

Sport&physical activity

How will you consult with the young people in your area or organisation to ensure that they are represented well and their voices are heard?

I will mostly consult with young people online so they can easily share their views without having to attend meetings or events.
I would use online surveys and forms to ask young people what issues matter to them and what they would like to see changed. I would work with schools, youth groups and sports clubs to share these surveys with young people across Clackmannanshire.
I would also attend youth events and activities when I can, especially outside school hours, to listen to people face-to-face.
I will make sure I listen to different opinions and not just my own. I would then take the issues and ideas young people raise to the Scottish Youth Parliament and relevant organisations.
My aim is to make it simple and accessible for young people to have their voices heard.

Why should someone vote for you?

I think I would bring three things to the role: enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to listen.
I want to represent all young people in Clackmannanshire, not just people who have the same interests as me.
Sport is a big part of my life, especially rugby. I know how important clubs, coaches, facilities and opportunities can be for young people. I want to help make sure more young people have those opportunities.
I also care about education and youth work. I want to listen to young people about what they like, what they think could be improved and what matters to them.
If I become an MSYP, I will listen, speak up and take action. I will take the role seriously and make sure young people's voices are heard.
